Zags Lose '09 Recruit
The allure of big-time football has stolen Brock Osweiler away from Gonzaga University.
The 2009 basketball recruit had verbally committed to Gonzaga University two years ago during his freshman year. However, his recruitment as a football recruit has picked up after a strong showing during his junior year. He had held offers from Arizona State, Stanford, and Washington State. Today, he decided to withdraw his verbal to Gonzaga and join Dennis Erickson at Arizona State.
He had also been hearing from Florida State, UCLA, and Tennessee among others.
While no one can blame Brock for choosing big time football, this decision is a curious one. He will be competing right away with incoming recruit Jack Elway, son of John Elway and Arizona State isn't Florida State or Tennessee. A little more time and he could have been able to get an offer from a more prestigious program.
This decision could not come at a worse time for Gonzaga. They are very thin down low and losing a power forward like Osweiler is a hit they could not afford to take. Mark Few now has his work cut out for him in finding another big man. Something tells me, however, that Few may have been able to see this coming and is already on to plan B. Only time will tell.
