Derby Day Headlines

1. Zags baseball loses series opener to USF 7-5- The Zags held a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning but the Dons knocked in five runs in the top of the inning off of starting pitcher Matt Fields who took the loss. The Zags made a late charge in the seventh, scoring two runs but could not capitalize on key opportunities throughout the game. With the loss, the Zags drop to 27-19 on the year and 7-8 in the WCC. In a bit of good news, second basemen Evan Wells did manage to extend his hitting streak to an impressive 18 games. They look to bounce back today at 1 p.m. at the Patterson Baseball Complex
2. Jayhawk Invitational kicks off- The biggest story of the day was the absence of Lance Stephenson. Arguably the top player in the 2009 class, the Atlanta Celtic guard decided to sit out this AAU tournament. This didn't slow the Celtics down at all as they slid by the Las Vegas Prospects by 14 points. Las Vegas is led by Gonzaga prospect Anthony Marshall. Their are many other potential Zags in this tournament including Jeff Reid, Tyler Hunnycutt, and Sam Dower. We'll bring you more results as they continue to come in.
Other Stories of Note...Brad Tinsley joins Jeff Taylor at Vanderbilt... Tennessee having an extreme makeover...
