Last year was a banner season for the men's soccer team, as they were able to qualify for the NCAA tournament and defeat bitter rival University of Washington. The pressure is on for the Zags to continue the excellence, but it will not be an easy task, as they must replace 10 seniors from last years squad. However, with the recent success, and a beautiful new field, it is reasonable to expect another great season on the the field.
The Zags open the season against fellow NCAA tournament participant Creighton. This game will take place in Omaha, and the Zags will actually start the season with 4 straight road games. In this span, the Zags will take part in 2 tournaments. They will be playing in a tournament hosted by Oregon State beginning September 7, as well as a tournament hosted by UNLV that will go from September 12-14. The 1st time the guys will plan on their new field will be in the Gonzaga/Nike Soccer Classic Dept., which will begin on September 19. The highlight of the non-conference schedule will be on September 28, when the Zags travel to Seattle to take on the University of Washington. WCC play kicks off on September 26 against Portland, with the home opener being October 3rd against USF.
Despite losing 10 seniors, it seems that the program is really starting to take off, and will certainly benefit from the fantastic new stadium. This schedule will certainly challenge the Zags, but TKR would like to wish them the best of luck, and hopefully another NCAA tournament appearance is in the cards.
