This has been a slow week for all GU athletics news, but we will still provide a recap on the recent news that has come up.
- Jason Bay, a GU alum, was part of one of the biggest deals at the MLB trade deadline. Bay, who was the NL rookie of the year in 2004, was dealt from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Boston Red Sox, as part of a 3 team deal that also included the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bay is a 2 time all-star who has 22 home runs and 64 RBI's so far this season. Bay will be replacing Manny Ramirez in the Boston Red Sox outfield, and will likely make his debut tonight. This should be a great opportunity for Bay to show his great talent to a larger audience, and a great chance to play in the playoffs.
- The WCC portion of the Zags basketball schedule was released, and the Zags will be making 8 appearances on the ESPN family of networks. As had been previously reported, the WCC has switched back to the Thursday/Saturday schedule, and will be featured on the ESPN Thursday Night Showcase. The WCC tournament will run March 6-9 in Las Vegas, and dont forget that the Zags will be hosting Memphis during WCC play. There is a lot of speculation that the Memphis game may actually be played in the MAC instead of The Spokane Arena.
