Overall the event was excellent and finished up with a scrimmage. As one can expect, the play was pretty sloppy as a lot of players were trying to make the big play but their was some flashes of brilliance. The freshmen look good. Meech is lightning in a bottle and Grant is about as solid as it gets. I was extremely surprised with Andy Poling who showed some great ability to rebound the ball offensively and is actually quite an imposing post player. The sophomore's were excellent tonight. Austin still needs time to get back into playing shape but the fact that he was out there at all spoke volumes about the type of competitor he is. Steven Gray was lighting it up from outside and will easily be one of the leading scorers for this team. Matt Bouldin was also very solid and had a great three-pointer to start off the scrimmage.
The players that impressed me the most were Micah Downs and Josh Heytvelt. Micah looks really good and is probably the most complete basketball player on the roster. I pray he stays healthy because if he does, he is going to be very special. Heytvelt is back and playing with that swagger again. He was the most physical player on the court tonight and really played like he had something to prove. Ira Brown was also impressive, he is definitely a player that can play in the post despite his height. He moves players around the paint and is such a physical specimen.
Overall it was a great night for the program. It showcased a lot of the qualities of the players and it's always nice to see them having fun. We were able to snap a few shots of the action (sorry for the quality, it's a camera phone.
