Gonzaga Up to #9

-Both Gonzaga and Notre Dame benefited from the struggles of Duke this past week, as both teams moved up a spot in the polls. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are now ranked #9 in the AP Top 25, and remain #11 in the ESPN/USA Today Poll.

I don't foresee any opportunity for the Zags to make a significant move up the rankings this week. However, with potential games against Michigan St., Tennessee, and Georgetown looming in the Old Spice Classic, the team has a terrific opportunity to be ranked in the top 5 by December.

- All the talk about Utah potentially competing for an NCAA Tournament berth may have been premature. The Utes, who host Gonzaga on December 31, lost their opener to Southwest Baptist. The Division II school from Missouri nailed 16 3's in route to the 80-79 victory. Hopefully this result, as well as early season struggles for both Duke and UCLA, reminds the Zags that they need to bring their best effort every night.

- Here is a link to the ESPN College Hoops Tip-off Marathon. This great college basketball event kicks off tonight with UMass vs. Memphis, and ends tomorrow night with the NIT Regional finals. Be sure to watch St. Mary's tonight at 11:00 PM, when they host Fresno St. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
