- What was considered by many to be a rebuilding year for the men's soccer team, has instead turned into a one week playoff for the WCC championship. Earlier today, the Zags defeated LMU 2-1, and by virtue of the results in games featuring USD and USF, they head into the last weekend tied for 1st place with USF.

In a thrilling affair, Gonzaga was able to sneak out a 2-1 victory over the Lions of LMU. Early on, it appeared that GU was suffering from a hangover following their tremendous victory over USD on Friday. LMU dictated the pace, and in the 19th minute it appeared they were going to take the lead. A penalty was awarded, after the refereed decided that Scott Barnum had taken down the LMU forward in the box. However, Barnum, who is the goalie, made a tremendous diving save to keep the score tied. This save changed the momentum of the game, and by the end of the half, the Zags were up 2-0. Well-taken goals by Tim Muravez and Nick Barclay appeared to have put the game out of reach, but the Lions clawed back in the 2nd half. A goal by Rafael Baca in the 67th minute made the last 20 minutes nerve-wracking for Gonzaga fans. Despite LMU earning numerous corner kicks, the Zags were able to hold on for a great victory.

The team returns to action a week from today, when they take on St.Mary's in Moraga. While GU only has one game remaining, both USD and USF have two. However, USD and USF play each other on what should be an exhilarating day of soccer next Sunday. Throughout the week, TKR will keep everyone updated on the WCC standing, as well as any tiebreakers that may come into play. Just a remainder, 1st place in the WCC means an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

- Daequon Montreal and his College of Southern Idaho teammates came away victorious in the K&T Steel Tournament this past weekend. CSI went undefeated in the tournament, that also included Northwest Wyoming, Central Arizona, and Central Arizona. This tournament marked the opening of the regular season for Montreal, and the Gonzaga recruit performed at his best. In the three games, Montreal averaged just over 16 points and just over 13 rebounds. It is this toughness and skill that has school from across the country recruiting Montreal. From what we understand, Gonzaga remains strongly in the hunt for Montreal, and his experience would be a huge help to the team next season.
