Gonzaga C/DH Tyson Van Winkle was selected in the 39th round of the MLB draft. The redshirt sophomore was selected by the Houston Astros, making Van Winkle the 8th Zag to be selected under current coach Mark Machtolf.
Van Winkle hit for a .298 average this year and drove in 30 runs. In his 25 games as a catcher, and his 22 as a designated hitter, Van Winkle his 3 home runs and scored 28 runs.
Congratulations to Tyson Van Winkle and the entire team and staff for this great accomplishment. After another successful season, it seems that the GU baseball team is certainly on the rise.
